Nancy's debut novel is a contemporary tale chronicling the evolution of the print newspaper industry from Nixon to Biden, as told through the lens of a multigenerational family story. SUNSHINE GIRL follows the life trajectories of intrepid reporter Mina Breckenridge and third-generation newshound Eliza Donovan Dixon from the rain-soaked streets of Oregon to the sunny beaches of California to the alpine tundra of Alaska over a 50-year span, from the newspaper industry’s “heyday” to its current “mayday." Along the way, Eliza’s mother Judith holds tight to an inescapable family secret, her editor father Martin is forced from his newspaper career and embarks on a healing journey, Martin's former colleague Mina remakes her life after a traumatic interruption, and Eliza's personal and professional lives bring her full circle, back to her beloved Rose City. Thematically, the book explores the intersection of politics, mass media, and the current post-truth era.
